THE CHALLENGE
Client overview and challenge
The client provides crew and crewing services to the world’s maritime and cruise industries. As a maritime manpower agency, it handles very large volumes of application documents that must be accredited and checked for validity.
The key challenges included:
Heavy Manual Effort: Verifying documents and accrediting applicants was a human-intensive process.
Accuracy: Speeding up the process could not compromise data accuracy.
Many Sources: Documents had to be validated against several websites.
WHAT WE BUILT
Our solution
BlastAsia used robotic process automation (RPA) to speed up verification without compromising accuracy:
Access Automation: RPA uploads documents to a server from validated screenshots and verifies the consistency of document data.
File Watcher: Applicants submit documents through a mobile app; OCR extracts the data and sends it to an FTP server, where RPA reads it.
Web Extraction: RPA validates documents on several websites, checking authentication and validity periods.
Fast Feedback: Validated results go back to the applicant in as fast as 2 to 3 minutes.
Built with: RPA, OCR, mobile app, FTP
RESULTS
The result
Document verification and applicant accreditation are faster, and applicants get their results quickly.
Turnaround: Validated results return to the applicant in as fast as 2 to 3 minutes.
Accuracy: Faster verification without compromising data accuracy.
Engagement: Ongoing since 2019.
